38 Encouraging Bible Verses for Moms
Today if you need some encouragement as an overwhelmed mom, I want to share some Bible verses that I hope can be a blessing to you.
A mother’s day can be so full that we hardly have the time to spend time in God’s Word. While that should be a priority for us, some days you don’t really have a chance to sit down and spend time in God’s word. Maybe you just need a bit of quick Bible inspiration. Here is a list of scriptures that I hope can encourage you in your motherhood day.
These verses are all from the King James Version but you can click on any reference and then choose the version you wish in Bible Gateway.
Listen to them instead if you prefer:
Psalm 23
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”
The Word of God has so many beautiful pictures of how our Heavenly Father cares for us. Psalm 23 is so common we sometimes forget to pay close attention to the words, but they hold so much for us. He will restore us, walk with us through valleys, comfort us, give us goodness and mercy, and provide a place for us to dwell with Him forever. If you are a weary mom today, turn to the Shepherd.
Psalm 31:24
“Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.”
God is a God of hope. We can hope in Him, and it will not be in vain. He will see us through. Be of good courage with all you have to do today.
Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Sometimes a busy mom can forget the big picture as she is so focused on the affairs of her household. We forget that there is a bigger world around us, and that God reigns over all and is working to fulfill His Eternal plan. This verse reminds me that I am part of a bigger picture, and I can rest in what God is doing.
Isaiah 12:2
“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.”
This verse has been one of my favorite verses for many years. The first time I noticed it was just a few days after my 15th birthday and after my Grandpa had passed away. I needed strength and a song, and I saw that God could be that for me. In difficult times since, I have often turned back to this verse and remembered that He is my strength and joy.
Isaiah 40:11
“He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: He shall gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.”
This verse gives us a beautiful picture of God. He is like a tender shepherd. God’s love is greater than a mother’s love, and we all know how much we love our children. He will carry us, and will also gently lead those that are with young. When we are tired it is sometimes hard to see that He is gently leading us, but if we turn our eyes to Him, we will see ways that He is being gentle with us.
Isaiah 40:29-31
“He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might He increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
This sounds like the full life we often desire to have. Instead, motherhood can often feel wearisome. But wait on the Lord and He will renew your spirit. It might not always be a physical renewal, but He will help us.
Isaiah 41:10
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Sometimes in our motherhood journey, we face fear. Maybe it is the fear about if you are enough, or what will happen in our children’s future. This spirit of fear is not from God. Turn to God’s strength to help you get through the fear. Trust God that He will be there, and let go of fear.
Isaiah 66:13
“As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem.”
Any good mother comforts her crying children. This is a beautiful picture of how God comforts us. He is always by our side and cares when we are hurting. If you are sad today, lean on God to comfort you.
Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
On the hard days, it is good to remember that God’s plan for us includes “hope and a future” as the NIV Bible says. We will not always feel like this. And if on Earth things don’t get better, Heaven will certainly be bright.
Matthew 6:33
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
We can do a lot of good work as mothers, but it doesn’t really hold value if we don’t seek first God’s kingdom. I have heard older women encourage us younger moms many times to remember what is the most important, and what will really matter in later years. God’s kingdom, His righteousness, and our children’s hearts will be what really counts. Let’s keep our priorities straight in this season of life, and He will add all we need.
Matthew 11:28-29
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”
The peace of God that fills our hearts when we come to Him is worth any yoke we need to take up. As mothers we are often weary, but let’s learn from Him. He is where we find rest for our souls.
Romans 8:39
“Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Nor messes, nor dirty diapers, nor short nights, nor any such things either. Even though we may not always have time for our personal devotions, God does not let that separate us from Him. He is there for us.
2 Corinthians 1:3-5
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ, we share abundantly in comfort too.
Today you may need comforting, and may need to comfort your little ones. It is a comfort that God comforts us and gives us what we need to comfort our children.
2 Corinthians 12:9
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
We can’t do things on our own, but through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can find the strength we need when we are weak. We will often need God’s grace to get through the hard times in motherhood, but exactly in our times of greatest weakness, His strength can shine through.
Galatians 6:9
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
Sometimes we get weary when our children don’t seem to catch on to their mother’s teaching, but let’s not give up! We will reap. Don’t be weary. Don’t faint. Keep doing well!
Philippians 2:14-15
“Do all things without murmurings and disputing: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;”
As I read this again I was struck at how doing things without murmurings and disputing is what will make us a light in the world. It’s something I need to work on.
Philippians 4:13
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
As struggling moms with a bunch of little children, we often feel like we can’t do all things. But I remember again that it is Christ who gives me strength, and He will help me do what I need to do.
Colossians 3:23-24
“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.”
Motherhood can be a thankless job. I am trying to learn to do it as to the Lord, knowing that someday He will reward me. It’s Him I serve, and it’s okay if no one else sees all the sacrifices.
1 Peter 1:3-9
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.”
We face a lot of trials in life. These verses encourage me today to remember the inheritance I have in heaven. You will be tried, but have faith! The reward is coming!
1 Peter 5:7
“Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.”
We can do our very best, but at the end of the day, we have to learn to leave what we can’t control in God’s hands. He cares, and in the proper time, He will make all things right. Leave your cares with Him and take courage as a mom today.
